Description
Function:
Under close supervision of the Instrumentation Supervisor, or designated senior technician, performs routine preventive and corrective maintenance work associated with the installation, maintenance and repair of process control instrumentation and electronic equipment used in the production, treatment, storage and distribution of water.
Responsibilities:
- Performs routine preventive and corrective maintenance work by:
- Monitoring the proper operation of various process instruments through local HMI panels and SCADA workstations.
- Calibrating and maintaining a variety of electronic equipment to include: flow and pressure transmitters, turbidity meters, pH meters, CL2 meters, and streaming current detectors.
- Verifying the proper operation of modems, switches, routers, PLCs, and other related devices related to the SCADA system.
- Assisting with the maintenance and repair of electronic controls for filter influent, effluent, drain, and wash control valves.
- Wiring and assembling components for new installations according to drawings/schematics prepared by the Instrumentation Supervisor or a designated
senior technician. - Operating a variety of tools and devices to include: soldering equipment, VOMs, mA meters, pressure calibrators, laptop computers, hand tools, and other
electronic related tools and devices. - Replacing printed circuit boards, motors, and other electronic and or electrical
parts. - Replacing faulty components such as transistors, diodes, capacitors, resistors, and other related components in the repair of such parts.
- Maintaining assigned Fairfax Water vehicles and tools including shop test
equipment. - Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Requirements
- Graduation from high school or GED and a minimum of two years electronic experience, or any equivalent combination of education, experience and knowledge.
- Willingness to attend a two-year Electronic Technician Program leading towards an Associate’s Degree in Electronics.
- Knowledge of basic electronic and electrical theory.
- Understanding of basic process control instrumentation.
- Ability to use electronic test equipment and hand tools.
- Ability to read circuit diagrams and manufacturers manuals.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Willingness and ability to work at other Fairfax Water locations as required.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and the public.
- Possession of a valid driver's license and good driving record.
- Ability to work scheduled and emergency overtime as required.
- Ability to work standby. Standby for an Instrumentation Technician I will be in a training capacity and under the direct supervision of the senior technician on call until such time as the Instrumentation Supervisor feels that the individual is qualified to work on his or
her own. - Must pass a controlled substance (drug) test for employment
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to climb ladders, steps, and scaffolding.
- Ability to perform manual physical labor that may include long periods of standing, bending, twisting, stooping and climbing.
- Ability to work in confined spaces and at heights greater than 100 feet.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds.
- Ability to wear a respirator.
